    Sedation Dentistry

Did you know that one in five people are afraid of going to the dentist? Today, there are many ways to make sure patients are as comfortable as possible during and after procedures. If the thought of having to go to the dentist gets your palms sweaty, don’t worry—there are many ways to ease your nerves or phobia. Sedation dentistry uses medication that relaxes you and sometimes makes you fall asleep. All methods are safe and effective sedative agents.

    Oral Sedation

Similar to nitrous oxide, patients remain conscious with oral sedation. Patients typically take a pill an hour before their appointment with the dentist allowing for a moderate level of sedation. The goal is to have patients feel lightly sedated and relaxed. Oral sedation is most often used to manage mild to moderate anxiety levels.

    IV Moderate Sedation

Using an IV moderate sedation allows for the sedative drug to work more quickly as it’s delivered directly into a vein. The dentist is able to control and adjust the level of sedation with this method. Patients will still be able to talk and breathe on their own with IV sedation and feel relaxed.
